How to Apply — Step by Step

  • Identify your target partner university — visit the Mastercard Foundation website and find the full list of partner institutions
  • Apply to the university first — you must gain admission before applying for the scholarship
  • Complete the scholarship application — available on the university's financial aid portal
  • Submit your personal statement — focus on your background, leadership experience, and commitment to Africa's development
  • Provide two reference letters — from teachers, mentors or community leaders
  • Submit financial need documentation — proof of household income
  • Tips for a Strong Application

    • Be specific and personal in your essay — selection panels read thousands of generic responses
    • Quantify your community impact — "I tutored 15 students" is stronger than "I helped my community"
    • Apply to multiple partner universities to maximize your chances
    • Submit early — portals sometimes have technical issues close to deadlines

Application Deadline: October 31, 2025. Start your application now — do not wait until the final week.
