About Chevening
Chevening is the UK Government's international scholarships programme. It funds outstanding emerging leaders from across the world — including Ghana and all African nations — to pursue a one-year Master's degree at any UK university.Chevening is not just a scholarship. It's membership in a global network of over 50,000 alumni who hold influential positions in government, business, civil society and media worldwide.
What Is Fully Covered
- Full university tuition fees (no cap — including top universities like Oxford, LSE, Imperial)
- Monthly living stipend (approximately £1,100/month in London)
- Economy return flights from your home country
- UK visa application fee
- Arrival and departure allowances
- Access to exclusive Chevening events and network
Who Should Apply
Chevening targets future leaders — people who already show evidence of leadership and the potential to make a difference. This is not primarily an academic scholarship (though strong academics are required). It rewards:
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Clear professional ambitions
- Commitment to returning to your home country after the program
- The ability to influence others and drive change
Eligibility
- Citizen of Ghana or other eligible Chevening country
- Minimum 2 years of work experience by November 2025
- Bachelor's degree with strong academic results
- Apply to and receive offers from 3 UK universities before interview stage
- Commitment to return to Ghana for minimum 2 years post-study
- Not currently employed by UK government or British Council

The Essays — What Chevening Wants to See
The four essays are the heart of your application. Each is 500 words:
- Leadership essay: A specific example of when you led people or a project. Not a list of titles — one story, in detail.
- Networking essay: How you have used relationships to achieve goals and how you will contribute to the Chevening network
- Study in UK essay: Why the UK specifically and why now in your career
- Career plan essay: Where you are going in the next 10 years and how this Masters accelerates that
